The macbook air was updated last october, but many people are asking if it is a suitable replacement for their old computer, as some of the components inside it could be beaten by a new phone (11inch model only has a 1.4ghz intel core duo processor)! But surprisingly it can easily handle games and photo and video editing. This is due to the high end graphics card (the same one used in the macbook pros) and a flash memory drive. This allows it to have a record breaking time of 30 days in sleep mode. But having flash memory is not just a good thing, as part of the macbooks air's high price is due to flash memory's expensive cost. However the macbook air has a brilliant battery life of about 6 hours and has a very high resolution screen which is a joy to look at. Furthermore, no laptop or netbook can rival the Air's beautiful unibody design. But its design comprises its ability for it does not have an optical drive.
The Pros
- Lightweight unibody design
- Flash memory
- High-resolution screen
The Cons
- Very Expensive
- No optical drive
- Small amount of storage
To conclude, the macbook air is a brilliant machine, but one which apple has to knock off a few hundred pounds off its price tag in order to make it a sensible choice for a new mac. At the moment though it is best to wait for the new macbook pro which is expected to come out tomorrow. Stay tuned as applevine will give you a full review and the pros and cons.
